New Countertops

Our new kitchen countertops have been doubling as dining room decor for nearly 2 months. We have been waiting for the perfect wide-open time slot to install them. The time finally came yesterday afternoon. Ernie was free from about 1 o'clock to 5 'oclock. My parents were coming to visit, and Dad (who is handy at everything) said he would be happy to help. It was perfect. Rip the old countertops off. Slap the new ones on.

We got all the old ones ripped off anyway.

Dad and Ernie decided to begin with the longest countertop in the "slap the new ones on" part. (This is the one where they had to unhook the dishwasher, water lines and garbage disposal and remove our kitchen sink before they removed the old countertop.) As they began positioning the new countertop, Ernie and my dad discovered that it had been cut - at the factory - about 1/4" too short. The replacement one will take about 2 weeks to arrive.

It's not so bad, though. I really like the look of the new countertops - even though they aren't installed. My dad was a big help, and nobody even suggested going ahead and using the countertop that was too short and calling it "good enough".
